A cooking stove powered by ethanol fuel, developed by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL) in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, is expected to be test-launched soon.
Ethanol made form some crops is considered to be a more eco-friendly option. Bio-ethanol is an eco-friendly fuel generated through the fermentation process of food grains or sugars.
According to industry insiders, HPCL intends to introduce ethanol dispensers at their retail stores, referred to as ‘ethanol ATMs,’ where customers can obtain canisters of ethanol to use for their stoves.
