HAV Group has received the preliminary design approval from DNV for its hydrogen-based energy system for cruise ships.
The Norwegian technology provider’s system was developed as part of the FreeCO2ast project and it uses liquefied hydrogen storage and fuel cells.
The approval by DNV can makes HAV Group enter the final design stage and is one step closer to commercializing its hydrogen system. The company plans to retrofit these systems onboard two coastal cruise vessels belonging to Havila Kystruten.
