Frequently asked questions

To ensure timely delivery, we recommend placing an order 7 to 10 days before you are due to run out of medication. If you are registered with a GP in England and your GP issues your prescription electronically, you can get your medication delivered for free via Royal Mail delivery. Once we receive your electronic prescription from your GP, your medication will be prepared by our dedicated pharmacy team4 and then dispatched through Tracked Royal Mail delivery. We will send you an update when your order has been dispatched. We’re currently only able to offer free Royal Mail delivery service to patients registered with a GP in England.

Alternatively, if you wish to collect from a store in England, you can choose this option when you order. You can use collins Prescriptions Plus to order your prescription if your GP surgery is in Scotland, Northern Ireland or Wales, and you can choose which store you wish to collect from when placing your order. You may also be able to get your medication delivered from the store of your choice – please ask for details in-store (please note that charges may apply for delivery from store).

You can manage your repeat prescriptions in your collins online account.

From there, you’re able to:

  • Track the status of your order, including whether it has been approved by your GP
  • Set reminders so you know when it’s time to reorder your medicines.
  • Cancel an order for delivery (available in England) if you have not received an email to inform you that your medication has been dispatched
  • Choose or change the Collins pharmacy you wish to collect your prescription from

If any items are missing from your order, please contact your GP surgery.

Yes, using the online Collins Prescriptions Plus service is free.

If you pay for NHS prescriptions in England, the usual NHS prescription charge will apply.

In Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales, NHS prescriptions are free of charge.

If you need your prescription sooner than normal, the best option is to contact your GP directly. If your GP surgery is closed, call NHS 111.

Nominating a local Collins pharmacy (rather than choosing to have your medication delivered via Royal Mail if your GP surgery is in England) and collecting your medication from there once the prescription has been approved by your GP is recommended if you need your medication urgently or more quickly than normal.

You can have your medication delivered for free through Tracked Royal Mail delivery if you are registered with a GP in England and your GP issues your prescription electronically. Alternatively, for those that live in any part of the UK, it is free to collect from a Collins pharmacy of your choice. Delivery from your chosen store is also available in all regions but may include an additional fee.

Some prescription items are not suitable for delivery, such as those that need to be kept in the fridge or have extra legal restrictions (such as controlled drugs). If your prescription includes these, you’ll need to select ‘collect in-store’ when you order.

Additional points:

  • Someone else can collect your prescription with your consent.
  • You can choose or change your nominated pharmacy in your online account or by asking in-store at a Collins pharmacy.
  • If you’ve chosen delivery through your letterbox but your prescription is too large or unsuitable for this service, we’ll contact you to arrange an alternative way for you to receive your medication

You can track your prescription in your Collins online account:

1. Log in to your account

2. Select ‘Order history’ to see the progress of your prescription.

If you collect your prescription in store, you can also opt to receive a text message when your prescription is ready to collect. You can ask your local Collins pharmacy about setting this up. You will continue to get email updates in your online account even if you don’t use text alerts.

Tips for tracking your prescription:

  • Some prescriptions may take a little time for GP approval. You’ll be able to check your account to see the progress of your order, including GP approval and when it’s ready to collect (if you chose to collect in store at the time of ordering).
  • For home delivery, make sure your address is correct in your account to avoid delays or missed parcels.
  • If your order sent via free Royal Mail delivery shows as delivered but hasn’t arrived, check with Royal Mail first, then contact Collins Customer Care.
